Day at the Beach

Emily, Karina and Sofia
Emily was invited to go to the beach with her friends from church.  The kids here are out for summer break from mid December until the beginning of March.  They like to get together to hang out and what better place to hang out when you live in La Serena, Chile than the beach?

They have a favorite place they like to eat out.  It is on the main street down to the beach called Quatra Esquinas.  This place has the best juice.  You can choose from strawberry, peach, banana, kiwi, watermelon, apple, and sometimes chirimoya.  Each juice is 500mL which is more a less a pint.  It costs $500 pesos or about one dollar.  They also sell completos: hot dog in a bun swimming in avocados, mayonnaise and cheese sauce.  This also sells for $500 pesos.  Another favorite on the menu are empanadas.  It is great when the locals show you where the good is.

After lunch, the kids walked down to the beach to hang out and play sports.
The youth were very good about wearing sunscreen, but alas they came home with some burns.
Emily was pleased with her sand castle built from one of her friends' pair of shoes.

I can't believe how grown up Emily is... She is so cute. But it makes me sad. It feels like just yesterday I was holding and bouncing her in Mom and Dad's kitchen because she was fussy!
