We took to the streets this weekend to see what La Serena had to offer at their farmer's markets. There are two markets in town and this one is held three times a week. There must have been 100 stalls. There was so much to choose from and the prices for fresh produce are fabulous. The place was really packed with people. Many people brought their rolling carts to carry their produce home with. I liked the one that the lady who made a bag for her cart out of an old pair of jeans.
We have really become "fruitavores" since we have been here because the produce prices are so great. This vender has the best looking apples. They were huge and all the varities that we like. 
We found a few items at the farmer's market that we wouldn't see at home. I am not sure what one would do with a bunch of sea kelp. Who knows, it might just make a delicious soup. I wasn't quite ready to find out though.
I love the brown eggs. They are so beautifully different. We have tried some. They taste just like the white eggs folks, only the yolks are a little darker. Those peso prices, just to give you an idea, using the current exchange of 455 pesos to the dollar makes a dozen eggs cost about...$3.00. We are learning what things are cheap and what things aren't. Gas is running about $8 a gallon. Milk is roughly $6 a gallon. But we can get a 4 pound bag of mandarin oranges for around $2,
Here are the kids with some of our spoils from the farmer's market. 
Evan is just loving the mandarin oranges. This nice lady let us take a picture of her and her fruit stand. She gives samples of what she is selling. We were just going to take a picture of Evan by her stand, but she told him to move back and posed with her orange slices. We thought she was really cute!
