Halloween 2011

 The people here in Chile celebrate Halloween but not on the same scale as the United States.  We thought it would be fun to throw a Halloween party for our friends here in Chile.  We all dressed up for the occassion. 

Evan went as a mummy, but unfortunately the toilet paper that we used to wrap him in only lasted about an hour before it fell apart.  Later he changed into his teddy bear jammies and went as a baby.

Word to the wise:  remember to take a potty break before getting all wrapped up in your mummy costume.

Looks like Dave had a little trouble in surgery today.  He found a secret recipe for blood on the internet which was completely edible and realistic looking.

The kids here have never carved pumpkins before.  They've seen them on TV, but people don't really buy them and carve them.  Our Lider (Walmart) store had a couple dozen.  We bought 1/4 of the supply.  The ladies at the check out were very curious about our pumpkins wondering what we were planning on doing with them and if we were going to eat them.

Another activity for the evening was decorating sugar cookies.  They were very popular and were eaten in a matter of minutes.

We ended up having about 40 people come. 

The girls all dipped into our Halloween make-up to become even more scary than when they arrived.

Party games.

At midnight the boys went home and some of the girls stayed for a pijamada or pajama party.

For breakfast the girls had pancakes with maple syrup and fruit salad.  This was the first time most of them had tried pancakes and the first time for all to have maple syrup.  There were not any leftovers from the quadruple batch I made, so I can only assume that they were liked.

We had a couple of pumpkins left over and let the elders carve them the next day after having almuerzo with us.
