On the way back from their trip down south, Dave, Bill and Terrie took the scenic route along the coast. They explored several locations along the way but spent most of their time in a town called Zappalar.
There is a very nice trail that goes along the coastline where you can watch the waves and explore the shoreline. In the background is a peninsula that has trails for exploring.
The trails on the peninsula have lots of differnt flowers that are native to the area. This blue one was particularly intesting and beautiful.
Water is a fascinating thing. Everywhere we went it seemed like there were completely different patterns of waves crashing on the rocks, swirling, ebbing and flowing. Sometimes the patterns were quite predictable from wave to wave, but in other cases each wave brought a new outcome.
Bill and Terrie enjoyed the chance to sit, relax and watch the waves from the rocks on the peninsula.
Terrie enjoyed the contrast between the flowers and the ocean. Below are some cute purple flowers that were common on a succulent plant on the peninsula.
It was also fun to see cacti scattered along the coastline. Below, Terrie poses with cacti on the peninsula with the northern half of the town of Zappalar in the background.
Dave climed up on the rocks to take a picture with some of his favorite cacti in Chile that have made a permanent home in this crack of these rocks.
Bill and Terrie take a photo for the family album before heading back down from the rocks on the peninsula.
After climbing back down from the peninsula Dave went back south to go get the car while Bill and Terrie headed north. Below are Bill and Terrie enjoying some time together walking along the beach in Zapallar.
The trip up the coastline was a great way to wrap up Bill and Terrie's trip to Chile. After arriving back to La Serena that evening, Bill and Terrie got them selves organized, made a few last purchases in following morning, and headed back to California to get ready for the holidays.
