Arco, Italy

It was so nice having a rental car in Italy.  It allowed us to explore lots of areas in and around Lake Garda.  On Sunday we explored the city of Arco after a really big sleep-in trying to get over the killer jet lag. Arco is known for it's castle on the hill which we decided to eplore when were weren't able to find the hiking trails.

The city itself was very beautiful.  It is amazing to witness this type of architecture, expecially considering the age of most of it.  I loved finding a fresco painted on the side of this building.

Climbing the hill to see the castle was pretty fun.  Obviously the castle has had some wear and tear but that was part of the charm of it.

More amazing frescos in the castle.  Can you see they are playing a game of dice and checkers or chess?

Outside the castle grounds was this beautiful olive orchard.  You could tell the advanced age of these trees because most were hollow in the center where the original tree once stood.

A view of Riva del Garda from the the hills in Arco.
