Back to Chile 2013

We went back to Chile for another business conference in March.  This time we went back to the area we had vacationed in a year ago, Pucon.  It is a beautiful area with lakes and volcanoes and rivers and green everywhere.  It is really lovely.

We did a lot of what we love to do, hiking.

And we found that the muerta berries we just getting ripe.  Of course we had to pick them and fill our pockets full of them.  These berries have a tart pine flavored skin with a soft strawberry flavored filling.  They are so yummy.

This is the lake Villarica outside our hotel in Pucon.  The sand is black from the lava and the water is moutain lake cold.

The south of Chile was settled by the Germans who brought with them a favorite dish called Kuchen which is a fruit tart with a cakey custardy inside.  We had Kuchen every day with the breakfast that came with our hotel.

After the meetings we moved on to Puerta Varas.  More of the German influence was seen here.

The Kuchen was everywhere.

We found some of our Chile memories in the stores.  You can only find these sodas here.

Beautiful river near Puerto Varas.

Ski lift ride up to see the Volcan Orsono and the glacier.

We were so happy when the fog cleared and we were able to see the volcano.  This volcano unlike the one in Pucon is domed.  The glacier that covers the volcano is just amazing.  You can't really see the beautiful cracks of tourquois blue in the snow.

Here I am touching the glacier.  While we looked at the glacier large green humming birds raced up and down the canyon and past us.

It was so nice to see Chile again and get to explore more of the beautiful south of Chile.
