We had such a great trip to Hawaii this March.
You just gotta love it when business conferences are held in fabulous places like Hawaii. Believe me, there are plenty of meetings in places like Modesto. Fortunately for us this group holds one in Hawaii every 5 years. This is our place in Waiakaloa Village.
This sea water lagoon in the hotel was beautiful.
Definitely one of our favorite things to do is snorkling. This was the best spot at Kealakekua Bay near the Cook Monument. The fish were just beautiful!
Bananas! Emily and Evan made up this banana song when he was little and needed entertaining in the shopping cart. It became a theme song for all the D-lish bananas we had. These little critters are so much better than the store bought ones at home.
Hawaii Botanical Garden on the Hilo side of the island.
That is one crazy big snail, I say.
Volcano National Park
Halemaunau Crater
Kilauea Iki erupted in 1959. This is the lava lake it made during its eruption. They let you hike across the lave lake. Very cool.
Unfortunately the eruption that began in the beginning of March subsided the week before we arrived and we were unable to see any active lave at the surface. We still got a kick out of this drive that ended abruptly by some flows back in the 80's.
Punalu'u Beach
This black sand beach was beautiful, but even more amazing was the fact that is was the resting area for the green sea turtles. Of course we had to jump in and get a look for ourselves.
Yeah, that's me swimming behind that turtle.
There a couple of turles in the surf here by Dave.
This green sand beach was well worth the 2.5 mile hike to get to it. The green sand comes from a dormant cyndercone. Hawaiian lava makes this green crystal called olivine. Hence, the green sand. Dave did some way groovy body surfing while we were here.
Point of refuge.
Totems at Pu'uhonua o Honaunau
This lava flowed back in January. I could still feel the heat rising from the cracks of this brand new land.

Wow! Looks like you guys had so much fun. We were all super jealous back here in the snow. I was so happy that you were able to take some time off from your motherly responsibilities
